Latest news!
First of all, wish you all a very happy belated Indian republic day. Yesterday, January26, India celebrated its 60th Republic Day. Turning attention to competitive exams. The 11th NSO 2nd level exam is scheduled to take place on the 22nd Feb.'09. The results of the International Mathematics Olympiad shall be out by the 6th February. The results for NCO (2nd level) will be out by Feb end. NSTSE, organised by Unified Council, took place on Jan 25. The key will be put up on the website on February15, and the results on March1. IIO final results are also expected to be on the website by Feb end/March first week. All those of you who took part in National Digital Elicution Competition organised by Reliance, the semi-finalists will be announced on February6 on www.relianceworld.in. With this, I, Kartik sign off, as I've need to study, as final exams are round the corner, and my head is going to plead for some rest!

11th NSO results out
The results of the 11th National Science Olympiad conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation on November20, 2008 are announced. This result can be viewed on the SOF website at http://www.sofworld.org . For your info, I secured an average rank, according to my assessment. I got 245th AIR and 6th School Rank. For now, bye bye as I need to study. See you soon!

8th NCO 2nd level Online Sample Test
In order to give you a feel of the online tests your will be subjected to on Jan 18 for the NCO 2nd level online test, the Science Olympiad Foundation has released some sample online tests. These tests can be attempted by visiting the SOF website http://www.sofworld.org and then choosing the requisit option. You can log into the test window by entering your user name and password. Your user name is your first level NCO Roll No. without dashes, and your password is all the same. The test consists of 15 (fifteen) MCQs which have to be answered within 15 Mins. The actual test will consist of 30 questions, with a duration of 30 Mins. So BOL!
Besides this, if you ask me what am I upto these days, then my definite answer would be that I am a book worm. I have an MT on Wednesday, since the winter vacations were extended upto the 7th after the order received from the Hon'ble Government of India. Thursday is another holiday for Muharram, Friday school, Saturday and Sunday holidays as usual and Monday anohter Monday Test, i.e. Science. I'm also making a poem on unit tests, how I hate them on one hand, and how they are extremely useful and necessary on the other. I will post it, and then I hope all will find it rather boring/interesting, it's up to you to decide.

IIO and NCO, 2008
Yo! International Informatics Olympiad gave me a Gold Medal and a cool Maxima watch.....that's coz I came rank 5 across 7 countries of the world. Rank 5 all over India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, Sri Lanka and Myanmar!!!!!!!!!! It was a pleasure, as it is a prestigious position!
Yet another achievement! I got 1st AIR in the NCO, 2008. I got 100% marks. Now that I am very happy with my results....I am going to have a sound sleep.....so Bye!

We ate, danced, sang and enjoyed ourselves to the fullest. It was truly fun-filled and amazing. You can submit your experiences by sending your comments

TCS IT Wiz, 2008
TCS IT Wiz, 2008 is an inter-school computer quiz regularly organised by TCS in India. It was held in Delhi on December11. The quiz began with a 20-minute preliminary round, which was followed by a final round wherein top six teams competed for the ultimate position. And guess what! My school team made it to the final, and guess what! They won the quiz. I have collected some of the questions that the quiz master asked in the finals. One can try these questions. Another tech quiz which can be attempted can be had from the www.tcsitwiz.com.

The Philips i-Pill
Electronic pills have been used for diagnostic applications such as imaging, but the iPill from Philips Research, designed to treat gastrointestinal disorders, goes a step further, dispensing medication at a location and rate programmed by a physician. The disposable capsule, which is about the same size as an ordinary pill, contains a tiny computer, a wireless transmitter, and a series of sensors; it passes naturally through the digestive system after being swallowed with food or water. Although the iPill is still a prototype, Philips is about to begin testing it in animals and is working with pharmaceutical companies to evaluate what drugs might work best with it.
A. Microprocessor
Before the iPill is swallowed, a doctor loads it with a program that instructs it where to deliver its contents. The microprocessor monitors the pill's location, using data on pH, temperature, and the time elapsed since ingestion, and then determines when and in what pattern the pill's fluid pump will release drugs into the patient's digestive tract.
B. pH Sensor
The pH sensor helps the pill track its passage from the highly acidic stomach to the less acidic intestines. The pill's environment grows progressively more alkaline until it reaches the colon, which is more acidic again.
C. Temperature Sensor
When the patient swallows the iPill, the temperature sensor detects the change from room temperature to body temperature. That causes the microprocessor to start the clock that will help the pill calculate its location.
D. Fluid Pump
The drugs stored in the pill's reservoir can be released in a single burst, in a series of doses at multiple locations, or little by little as the capsule travels through the gut. The pump that releases the drugs consists of a motor and a piston driven by a screw rod, which can move precise amounts of fluid at the command of the microprocessor.
E. Wireless Transceiver
The iPill can communicate by radio frequency with a control device outside the body. It can gather temperature data, for example, and report on changes it finds as it travels. If a drug is causing a bad reaction, a doctor can send a command to stop the pill from releasing any more of it.
F. Battery
The iPill is powered by a silver oxide battery that holds a charge intended to last 48 hours--about twice the duration of the pill's natural transit through the body.
